GRAMMY Camp - SoundCheck with The Fray

Nicole A. Powell, GRAMMY Camp Alumni

It’s hard to find the right words to describe the feelings I had at The Fray’s GRAMMY Camp – SoundCheck. I was sitting in the first row of the Hollywood Bowl, only a few feet away from The Fray as they rehearsed for their upcoming show with Kelly Clarkson. The Los Angeles sun was glaring down, but the music seemed to take me to some place far away where the city lights were the only form of illumination. I have always liked a few songs by The Fray including “How to Save a Life” and my favorite, “You Found Me”; but had never followed their music extensively.

After the GRAMMY Camp - SoundCheck, GRAMMY Camp Los Angeles participants and members of GRAMMY U (collegiate members of The Recording Academy), were able to ask The Fray questions about their journey in the music industry and solicit advice about what they wish knew when first starting out.

This experience helped further prove value of the ties that I made at GRAMMY Camp. Despite everyone’s wide range of musical tastes, all were able to enjoy and come to respect The Fray’s music because of our shared love of musical talent.
