Inside The Home Of The GRAMMY Awards

The field trip to the Recording Academy served as a once in a lifetime experience for Campers in every track. From talking to GRAMMY Award CEO Neil Portnow and exploring his office, to chatting with associated members of the Recording Academy, to performing on The Recording Academy's first floor; it was surely a monumental event for everyone in attendance.

When the campers first arrived, we ate a quick soul food lunch provided by the

"Slap Yo Mama" restaurant, consisting of catfish, fried chicken, vegetable jambalaya, and watermelon-flavored lemonade. After the quick lunch, Campers were divided into three groups to visit the three different floors of the Recording Academy. The different floors and steps were decorated with paintings of artists and framed pictures of GRAMMY Award winning records. Once in our assigned offices, Campers received the opportunity to speak with associate members of the Recording Academy about their career paths and how they got to their current positions. Other Campers got the chance to explore Portnow's office and to speak with him over a conference call.

Following our information sessions, Taylor Washington, Christopher Cobbs, and Bella Porter provided the vocals for original songs on the first floor of the Recording Academy to an audience of GRAMMY Campers and Recording Academy members.

After the performance, campers networked with Recording Academy members for contact information and further tips for their futures in the music industry. The day provided a thrilling yet informative glimpse into the music business.
